Cisco Catalyst 9120AXP
The access point built for the floor that never has a quiet hour — Catalyst 9120AXP
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), four spatial streams, and Multigigabit Ethernet in one enterprise AP — designed for the spaces where hundreds of devices show up at once and nobody notices the network.
Overview
Cisco built the Catalyst 9120AX Series for the reality of modern wireless: more devices, more video, more IoT, all landing on the same AP at the same time.
The 9120AXP is the external-antenna variant of the series, giving network designers control over coverage pattern and gain instead of relying on the AP’s built-in antenna. It runs Wi-Fi 6 well past the baseline of the standard — four spatial streams, uplink and downlink OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and BSS coloring — so it keeps handling client requests cleanly as density climbs, rather than falling back to one-at-a-time service the way older 802.11ac gear does.

Where it earns its keep
Four capabilities do most of the work in a busy deployment:
OFDMA scheduling
Splits a channel into resource units so the AP serves many clients’ small packets in parallel instead of queuing them one after another.
2.5 GbE uplink
The Multigigabit port keeps the wired side from becoming the bottleneck once aggregate wireless demand climbs past 1 GbE.
Flexible Radio Assignment
Shifts its second radio to dual-5 GHz or security-monitoring duty automatically, adapting to client load without a site visit.
Target Wake Time
Lets IoT and mobile clients schedule check-ins with the AP instead of polling constantly, extending their battery life.
