Ciena 6500 WLAI MOTR SUBMARINE OTUCN REGEN KIT FOR ODUCN REGEN
Ciena 6500 NTZF53DR
WLAi MOTR Submarine OTUCn Regen Kit
A licensed configuration of the WaveLogic Ai MOTR circuit pack (NTK538DR) built for submarine line systems — the license unlocks ODUCn regeneration, pushing usable reach out to 3,500 km per regeneration span for wet-plant and long-haul subsea routes.
Overview
NTZF53DR pairs the NTK538DR WaveLogic Ai MOTR circuit pack with a submarine regeneration license, giving Ciena 6500 platforms the ability to perform ODUCn regeneration on OTUCn superchannels at wet-plant crossing points. Where the equivalent terrestrial base kit (NTZF53CM) tops out around 1,000 km, the submarine license class extends the same hardware to roughly 3,500 km per regeneration span — the difference between a metro card and a transoceanic one.
3,500 km regen reach
License-enabled ODUCn regeneration extends usable span length well beyond standard terrestrial WLAi MOTR configurations.
OTUCn / ODUCn regen
Full 3R (re-amplify, re-shape, re-time) regeneration of OTUCn superchannels carrying ODUCn payloads at landing and branching points.
Software-licensed capability
Same NTK538DR hardware as the terrestrial variant — the submarine regen behavior is unlocked by license, simplifying sparing.
4×QSFP28 client aggregation
Up to 400G aggregate client capacity per pack for grooming traffic onto and off the regenerated subsea line signal.

Performance at a glance
The license tier is what separates a metro-reach configuration from a transoceanic one — same circuit pack, different regeneration span.
Regeneration reach by kit
Rated span length before the next 3R regeneration point is required
Client vs. line capacity
Aggregate capacity carried through a single NTK538DR-based pack
Where it fits
Typical deployment scenarios for a submarine-licensed OTUCn regen kit.
Transoceanic regeneration points
Placed at branching units or cable-landing stations to regenerate OTUCn superchannels across multi-thousand-km subsea routes.
Wet-plant capacity refresh
Bring WaveLogic Ai coherent capacity to existing submarine cable systems without replacing the wet plant itself.
Shared hardware, licensed behavior
Stock a common NTK538DR spare pool and apply the submarine license only where the route calls for extended-reach regen.
